  MARCH 1st PRESS RELEASE - 2010
END THE SEARCH – THE ELUSIVE POT OF GOLD IS IN DOWNTOWN ATLANTA THIS ST. PATRICK’S DAY

Discover Eight Reasons to “Paint the Town Green” at the 128th Annual St. Patrick’s Parade and Festival

ATLANTA – Embrace Atlanta’s rich Irish culture and celebrate this St. Patrick’s the Irish way. Experience the largest and longest running “green” celebration in the city with the 128th Annual Atlanta St. Patrick’s Parade and Festival in Downtown Atlanta, Friday and Saturday, March 12 and 13, 2010. It doesn’t matter if you’ve got green running through your veins…because on St. Patrick’s Day, EVERYONE is Irish!

“This is going to be an especially exciting year to celebrate Irish heritage in Atlanta,” says Dan O’Leary, Chairman of the Committee for the Atlanta St. Patrick’s Parade and Festival and Owner of Underground Atlanta. “We have more fun activities and ways to enjoy the holiday than ever before. You can catch prizes and beads from ornate parade floats at the Parade and enjoy bagpipers, Irish dancers and other family-oriented activities afterwards at Underground Atlanta. Come Downtown and bring your green!”

Discover eight reasons to “paint the town green” for the 128th Annual Atlanta St. Patrick’s Parade and Festival:

8. Lucky Leprechauns of ALL ages can attend the family-friendly 128th Annual Atlanta St. Patrick’s Parade, starting at noon on Saturday, March 13. On the 1.1 mile route from Peachtree/Ralph McGill to Underground Atlanta, spectators will witness more than 200 units, including clowns, floats, bands of every kind, military units, Bagpipe and Drum Corps, Irish dancers, drill teams, dignitaries from Ireland and more!

7. Two-time NCAA and seven-time SEC “Coach of the Year” Vince Dooley is Grand Marshal of the parade and will ride in style with his wife Barbara and one of the descendants of UGA V.

6. The celebration continues post parade at Underground Atlanta for the St. Patrick’s Festival, with Irish dancing troupes, bagpipers, a vendor’s market, an Interactive Zone presented by the Atlanta Hawks and Thrashers Street Team and other activities for green-loving folks, both young and old, from noon to 8pm. Visit the Lower Fountains Stage, Lucky Charm Stage, Food Court Stage or Kenny’s Alley Stage for a wee bit o’ music, including: U2 tribute band Desire, Yacht Rock Schooner, teen sensation Zoe Myers and bagpiper Danny Ray Cole!

5. Other festive activities include the Irish Chamber Breakfast, Dignitaries Breakfast and “greening” Underground Atlanta’s fountains.

4. Leave your shamrocks - and the big bucks - at home…the luck of the Irish is with you all FREE weekend long.

3. Duke, Captain and Bud…The Budweiser Clydesdale horses are returning to Peachtree. Don’t miss these iconic horses in the Parade or in their stables in Centennial Park. Come take your photo with a Clydesdale at Underground Atlanta during the Festival!

2. The 2010 beneficiary is the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Drop-off bins will be located along the parade route and at Underground, so bring your cans! Win a premier spot in the parade by raising the most cans or money pre-event with the “Pot of Gold” campaign.

1. Extend the celebration even further with the Emerald Evening, an elegant affair at Cobb Energy Center on Wednesday, March 10. Enjoy dinner, cocktails, a live and silent auction and an exclusive performance of Michael Flatley’s Lord of the Dance. Tickets are $200/person. To purchase tickets, visit www.stpatsatlanta.com.
